AHIMA Foundation Launches Thought Leaders Lecture Series

The AHIMA Foundation is pleased to announce the launch of an important program: Thought Leaders, a lecture series established through the AHIMA Foundation Campaign, Transforming Health Information. This new initiative will provide an opportunity for HIM professionals to engage with industry leaders on cutting-edge topics, featuring presentations by leading educators, researchers, and practitioners within and beyond the HIM field. The Thought Leaders lectures will provide valuable insights into managing the internal and external requirements surrounding the critical flow of quality health information. There will be a breadth of knowledge shared by the industry’s keynote speakers and researchers, who will lend their depth of experience in presenting novel solutions for the most pressing issues in this rapidly changing field.

Each Thought Leaders lecture will be available online through a special Web series. The first of these lectures took place during the seventh annual Corporate Industry Briefing in Washington, DC, on March 24, and has now been posted online. The featured speaker was Susan Dentzer, editor-in-chief of Health Affairs and on-air analyst on health with “PBS NewsHour.” Through the generous philanthropic support of both HealthPort and Precyse Solutions, Dentzer’s remarks, entitled “Driving Research Results into Practice,” will be available to the public through the end of October on the AHIMA Foundation’s Web site.

About the AHIMA Foundation

The American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA) Foundation improves health information management by supporting the people, research and resources that advance the HIM profession.

Through scholarships and grants for HIM students, professional education and advancement programs, research, and a comprehensive HIM resource library, the AHIMA Foundation takes the lead in advancing the HIM industry.

There are many meaningful opportunities to give and support the AHIMA Foundation initiatives. Among them include donating to the Annual Fund, Named Scholarship Funds, or Tribute Gifts.

  • A gift to the Annual Fund supports Scholarships, Triumph Awards, the Foundation Library, Faculty Development, the Research Training Program, the Faculty Development Institute and Dissertation Research Assistance.

  • With a Named Scholarship Fund, your gift will be designated solely for scholarships to help educate the next generation of HIM professionals

  • Tribute Gifts are made In Honor of or In Memory of someone special.

The AHIMA Foundation also accepts donations through corporate matching gift programs. If your employers match philanthropic donations it is an easy way to help the AHIMA Foundation double donations to the scholarship program in 2010. Everyone wins when a donation is doubled, and matching gift programs enable that to happen. Check with your employer about a matching gift program, and if they need extra help from the Foundation to secure a matching gift, please contact Mary Madison at 312.233.1167 or mary.madison@ahimafoundation.org.
